7歳の時にテレビの演歌番組で初めて聴いた津軽三味線の音に衝撃を受け、演奏家の道を志す。
同年に佐々木光儀流日本民謡三弦入門。
14歳で津軽三味線全国大会優勝歴を持ち、NYカーネギーホールなど国内外で様々なジャンルとのセッション経験を積む。
“日本人にしか作ることのできないダンスミュージックを世界に”を追求し創作を続けている。
2015年に新たにスタートしたダンスミュージックと邦楽ユニット「HANABI」がクールジャパン認定アーティストとなる。
また日本の伝統芸能の魅力を伝えるべく能楽師 狂言方 大藏基誠と「日本の風」プロジェクトを立上げ文化伝承にも力を注いでいる。
At the age of seven, Trugaru-shamisen player was on the TV show, and the sound captured Yuji's heart. His heart was set on becoming a Tsugaru-shamisen player. Then he joined the Mitsuyoshi Sasaki Japanese folk sangen (three-stringed instrument) group at the same year.
At the age of 14, he won the All Japan Tsugaru-shamisen National Competition.
Yuji played his Tsugaru-shamisen abroad such as New York Carnegie Hall, Atlanta, Moscow, China etc... He plays with many genres as a session.
Yuji focuses on the mind that "Bring the made in Japan dance music to all over the world" and creates his original music.
His new unit, which is called HANABI, consists of dance music and traditional instruments. HANABI is certified as a COOL JAPAN artist.
Moreover, Yuji focuses on to tell a story of Japanese Traditional Arts and its beauty.
So, he started up "Nihon-no-Kaze Project" with his friend Motonari Okura who is a Noh farce player. Both of them try to hand down the Japanese traditional culture to the next generation.
